4 Year OldThe program is concerned with the ‘all round’ development of the child, achieving a balance between their emotional, social, physical and intellectual needs. Observations of each child are recorded and individual plans designed to develop attitudes and skills appropriate to their various levels. Themes, based on the children’s interests, are explored in areas such as Art, Social Studies, Science, Maths, Music, Movement and Literature. Many special activities are organized to enhance these themes, e.g.
A wide range of materials is provided to ensure that the program is both stimulating and creative. Special play areas are also set up, e.g. Camping in the bush, Planetarium, Restaurant, Shop, Hospital, Dental Surgery. Most activities are self-selective but there is also directed work where children complete a set task. Phonics and numbers are introduced in a fun way through songs, drawing, games and cutting and pasting activities. The more advanced children are encouraged to pursue their interest in reading, writing and/or maths. We hope that every child leaves Wayburne with a positive self-concept and a love of learning as well as many happy memories.

Birthdays:Children are able to celebrate their birthdays by having small cakes or other simple treats supplied by the birthday child’s parent to share during snack time. Roster DutyParents are invited to participate in the Kindergarten program (i.e. reading stories, helping children with a particular activity, preparing for snack time, etc.) this will be arranged on a roster basis, as will the laundering of towels and smocks. Extended HoursThere are a limited number of extended hours places available for children in the 4 year-old groups on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. These places are in addition to the four half day sessions and are generally allocated to children whose parents are working or studying (Cost is $20.00 per day – may be eligible for Child Care Benefit payment). All A and B group children have the opportunity to eat their lunch at the kindergarten on Extended Hours days (Cost is $5.00 per lunch session). Parents don’t need to book lunch sessions in advance. They are just required to write their child’s name on the lunch list for that day. |
